IQ-based dating to take the stage?

A recent partnership between American Mensa and online dating giant Match.com resulted in creating another strong reason to join the community of people with high IQ: love.

Since recently, really clever people have got an opportunity to group through a unique dating service that is called Mensa Match. Moreover, all the members of match.com now have got an opportunity of adding a special Mensa badge to their profiles in order to show their interest in connecting with someone with an IQ level far over 100 per cent, that is, with a genius.

What do users say?

According to the words of one of such geniuses, Anne Sereg, a 55-year-old IT project manager from Florida, she found out that she didn’t have match with sportive people of sports fan and therefore was looking for “intellectually curious” people. So can the new dating service become her helping hand? Sereg has to admit that her attitude towards choosing someone for dating can seriously limit the options for relationships.

What do experts say?

Ali Binazir, a Harvard graduate, claims that the real situation with Sereg can be even worse and that highly intellectual people can frequently feel eligible to love. Sometimes this means potential reluctance of making any compromises for a successful relationship. And since IQ level doesn’t tell us how well this or that person interacts with other people… it all turns out into a little bit more complicated matter than it seems. Furthermore, according to the data, received by match.com in their investigations, about 80 per cent of all singles admit that they find it “very important” to be with someone of the same intelligence level.

Any of good new opportunities?

Anyway, the new Mensa-Match.com cooperation attempt allows their users to experience some new ways of finding common ground, scientific advisers of match.com say.

Together with their partnership announcement, Mensa and match.com manifested a map of the cities with the “smartest singles” of the USA, which was based on those of them with the highest level of Ivy League graduates registered at the dating site. The top 10 of this map includes such college towns as Durham in North Carolina, Ithaca in New York, Boulder in Colorado and some others.

However, the aforementioned Ali Binazir doesn’t believe Mensa members are better at relationships than other people, although he said that Mensa-Match.com cooperation was a decision that he considered a step in the right direction.
