How I tried online dating for the first time

To begin with, I didn’t share at first the common opinion about the online dating sites and the awesome opportunities for finding your true love, provided by them. But that fashion craze simply couldn’t pass by me, you know. My curiosity got the better of me one day and so I signed up for one of those websites for romantic relations called chemistry.com. And I tried to search for someone for flirting online. Frankly speaking, I still thought that it was a bad idea, since there were some unwritten rules, or, I dunno, customs of the online communication I wasn’t aware of. I was new to this world and I didn’t know, how I was supposed to reply to some people… And that went on and on until I all of a sudden I met Ben.

Actually, in case with Ben, it was the friend of him, who encouraged Ben to “try that website out”. Both of us were rookies at the dating website of chemistry.com, and I think that was the key reason why we came together online so fast. See this sequence that took probably a week or so: we looked through each other’s profiles, exchanged a couple of messages that just broke no squares, then connected through the Skype and soon we kept in touch every day (imagine that Ben managed to do that, being a software designer and working up to 12 hours every day – at least it seemed to me so at times!). It was only a question of time before we were going to give each other our phone numbers and finally meet somewhere in a good restaurant – Ben and I live almost nearby. And that happened quite quickly as well!

And oh – I do remember I saw him for the first time, not on the screen, not on the web, but standing near the park gate with that old-fashioned bouquet of flowers (how did he know I love daisies? I never mentioned them!). And another thought that came to my head was: “Oh, he is so tall, I’ve never thought that he stands head and shoulders above me!” That was an unforgettable day, indeed! We spent it together, talked so much about different trifles, had dinner at one of the small cafes… And when it was the time to part we arranged the next meeting.

And very soon we realized that it would be much better to try to get closer to each other, as we were already more than just “friends”, which met online one day… Ben suggested that I could move in to him and I agreed after a while. And that decision was right, too! We have been living a happy life together for already three months – and all that thanks to chemistry.com!
